It's almost a tad ironic that Vancouver's Stabilo are up for a new group of the year Juno Award, given the fact that they've been putting out albums since 1999 or so. But it's their newest release, Happiness And Disaster, that's garnered them their current bout of fame, not to mention constant radio play and plenty of touring opportunities. It's definitely a hardworking ethic that didn't go unnoticed by the folks behind the Juno nominations. ChartAttack chatted with the band's Jesse Dryfhout at Tuesday's Juno nominees' media conference in Toronto:
ChartAttack: We're sick of the whole Canadian modesty thing — can you give us some blatant self-promotion to justify your nomination?
Jesse Dryfhout: Well, we've been around for about 12 years, so I guess that's long enough to be nominated.
CA: If you win, where will you keep your Juno?
JD: On my mom's dresser, I think.
CA:If you win, what are you gonna do to celebrate?
JD:Get drunk with the guys that didn't win. And if we lose, we'll get drunk with the winners.
CA:Who's the first person you'd call if you won?
JD:My mom. But she'll probably be there, or else outside the venue trying to get in.
CA:Are you going to prepare a list in case you win?
JD:No, I don't phone. I'll send out a mass email instead.
CA:Do you watch the Junos when you're not nominated?
JD:I've watched them a few times, but not every year.
CA:If you win, is there someone in your life who will stop nagging you about your career choice?
JD:My wife. No, she doesn't nag me, but it'll be nice anyway.
