Band To Perform In Halifax March 31st As Part Of This Years Junofest
Stabilo return April 4th with Happiness & Disaster, the highly anticipated follow-up to their debut EP 'Cupid?' Recorded in Los Angeles and produced by Brad Wood, (Tortoise, Smashing Pumpkins, Liz Phair) Happiness & Disaster showcases the distinctly different yet complimentary songwriting styles of the bands two frontmen Jesse Dryfhout and Christopher John. Jesse and Chris’s vocals echo with elements of 50’s pop, 70’ folk and 90’s alternative. The bands rhythm section, bassist Karl Willaume and drummer Nathan Wylie contribute a soul, jazz and funk flavour to the albums 13 songs.
The albums lead single 'Flawed Design' has been extremely well received at radio and is currently #19 at Hot AC and #32 at Rock.
Stabilo’s roots go back to their high school days, when Chris and Jesse bonded over their love of Dave Matthews’ guitar skills. Being the mid-90s, Chris was already in a grunge band called Molly and Jesse was brought in to drum. Then he played them the first song he ever wrote—“Everybody," Stabilo’s breakthrough hit (which has been re-recorded for the new album). Soon after, Jesse stepped out from behind the drums to join Chris upfront and Nathan Wylie, a childhood friend of both singers, joined on drums. Stabilo’s line up was complete when Karl joined on bass months before the independent release of their album Stabilo Boss. A listener-voted radio competition on Vancouver’s XFM saw ‘Everybody’ become the station’s most-requested song for nearly a month and helped the band sell more than 5000 copies of their self-released CD.
In 2003, Stabilo became the only indie act nominated for the Canadian Radio Music Award for Best New Rock Group.
Stabilo will be performing Friday March 31st at The Marquee in Halifax as part of JunoFest.
