Roger Ashby: Welcome to the studio, Stabilo!
Marilyn Dennis: YAY! Jesse and Christopher. Stabilo is from what, guys? The name?
Jesse: It's from a highlighter pen, probably all familiar with it.....
Marilyn: Yeah....I've got one....I've got one here that says round edge. You could've been called Round Edge, but you've chosen this.
Roger: Mine says Grand and Toy.
Marilyn: So I guess you chose the right name. So you guys have been....you've known each other since high school?
Chris: Yup
Marilyn: Pretty much?
Chris: It's...
Jesse: We...yeah...us since high school and the drummer since elementary school...we all sort of grew up together and....
Chris: Lifelong buddies...
Jesse:....blew up things with firecrackers together...
Roger: And you...you've been together as a band now for what? About 6-7 years?
Jesse: About 10
Roger: 10 years?
Chris: Well, the two of us have been together for about 10.
Marilyn: Yeah.
Chris: Well, I guess as a band it's getting up there too.
Jesse: Yeah..
Roger: So what's your goal when you start out...you're young guys, you're in a band, you think I'm gonna become famous, I want to become well-known, I want to have hit records...is that..is that always the goal when you start out or are you just doing it for the fun of it?
Jesse: Chicks
Marilyn: You did mention chicks....
Roger: That was going to be my second question...
Marilyn: Roger
Roger: You stole the answer to my second question! Okay...well you've had some great success
Marilyn: Yeah
Roger:...over the last few years..you've got a brand-new album out now... called Happiness and Disaster....in everybody's life there's a little happiness, there's a little disaster.
Marilyn: Life is one crisis after another, Roger, and here's one right now. So, why'd you name it that - first of all?
Jesse: Just because it's, sort of...you know, we have some happier songs on it and we have some fairly depressing songs on it. We figured it was just....
Marilyn: That's good
Jesse: But
Marilyn: A little bit of both
Roger: Yeah. For every day of the week.
Chris: Basically just what you said, life's full of both.
Roger: It is, isn't it?
Marilyn: Yeah
Roger: Hey, you've got a new version of "Everybody" on here....
Jesse: Yeah. We re-recorded it just because we wanted to, you know, sonically match up with all the other things and...
Roger: Oh. Okay.
Jesse: We're gonna put it on, I think, every album we ever put out...
Roger: Are you?
*laughter*
Roger: That's a great idea, a new version of a hit song on every successive album.
Jesse: Yeah
Marilyn: Why not?
Chris: We can put out a greatest hits of "Everybody's"...different versions...
Roger: Yeah!
Marilyn: Different versions, that's right.
Roger: That's right, I like that. I'm just curious, does that fall under happiness or disaster? Flawed Design?
Jesse: It's part of disasterous part of the job...
Marilyn: The word flawed gave it away....
Roger: Okay. Just..just checking....
Marilyn: So what about going on the road, guys. What's happening?
Chris: Going on tour...starting in Vancouver in a few days with a band called Mobile...and going across the country with them.
Marilyn: Looking forward to it.
Chris: So we'll be stopping here....
Marilyn: Good.
Chris: Definitely. Playing, I think, the Mod Club.
Marilyn: Oh, right!
Roger: Are you? The Mod Club. Good...
Marilyn: That's a great place. Yeah.
Roger: Happiness and Disaster, your second full album. Congratulations on that...
Marilyn: That's so good.
Chris: Thank you.
Roger: And thanks for playing for us this morning....
Jesse: Thanks for having us.
Chris: Thanks for having us.
Roger: Nice to have you with us. Stabilo....
Marilyn: It was a lot warmer for them this time because last time they were with us it was at the skating party...
Roger: Yeah! Yes, that's right!
Marilyn: That was the whole day...
Roger: Down at Ontario Place..
Marilyn: Yeah.
Roger: Freezing cold, yeah.
Marilyn: Yeah.
Roger: Thanks for coming in.
