Dina Pugliese: Stabilo has been together for 12 years, yet are only now making their major label debut. So Sean Gehon wanted to know why it’s called Happiness and Disaster.
Chris: Life is about opposites, you know. Happiness and Disaster, sadness, gladness....yin, yang. It just kind of turned out that way.
Sean Gehon: And Stabilo’s 5th album is definitely giving the band their yins. And unfortunately, some yangs.
Have you guys – while performing – have you had a greatest disaster yet?
Chris: Oh yeah!
Karl: Montreal?
Chris: Yeah. Montreal. The last....it was one of the last shows we played, I think. Jesse started singing and you see everybody in the audience going, we can’t hear you, we can’t hear you.....and .....so we realize the mike’s not on at all, and so
Jesse: I didn’t realize it at all....
Chris: He kept singing, I grabbed my mike, brought it over to him for him to sing, but mine ended up not being on either, and the sound guy is trying figure out what’s going on....eventually he gets a mike working and then we start hearing these explosions (insert Chris’s sound effects here)
the sound system just destructing.......it was a disaster.
Sean Gehon: But there has also been some happiness for Stabilo. Making history last year with the third highest downloaded song next to Madonna and Gwen Stefani.
How do you guys feel about that?
Jesse: Well, pretty good, but..... I mean, I think you had to pay for Madonna and Gwen Stefani’s songs and ours were free (laughter)....
Sean Gehon: But still, that’s a huge feat to be kept in the top 3 behind those guys....
Jesse: Yeah. It’s pretty cool. Yeah. I’m not gonna lie to you.
Sean Gehon: But taking it in stride comes easy to these guys. How do you stay grounded after 12 years?
Jesse: Keep your head up. Keep your chin up and, you know, just remember it’s about the music and don’t worry about all the bullsh*t.....pardon my French.
